All-electric Mini Cooper SE coming to PH

Last year, Mini confirmed that they will be saying goodbye to the internal combustion engine (ICE) in 2025 as the company is set to become a fully-electric brand. With that, the British automaker will soon shift from having ICEs and electrified vehicles to purely zero-emissions vehicles in just a few years' time.

But with only just a couple of years, before Mini makes the transition, Mini Philippines has yet to launch or reveal an electrified vehicle of its own. Come 2024, however, they will be introducing a fully-electric vehicle in the form of the Cooper SE.

That's right, Mini's first pure electric car is set to arrive in the country. This was confirmed by Jefferson Lizardo, General Manager of Mini Philippines. Details regarding the Cooper SE for the Philippines have not yet been shared. However, Lizardo did say that the electric hatchback will serve as the brand's foray into zero-emissions vehicles.

Official specifications for the PH-spec Cooper SE are also not yet available. But a quick look at what other countries get and we now have a good idea of what to expect. For starters, the Cooper SE comes with a 32.6-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that Mini claims gives the hatchback an estimated 235 to 270 km.

Meanwhile, motivation comes in the form of a front-mounted electric motor that puts out 184 PS and 270 Nm of torque. This allows the electric hatch to go from 0 – 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 150 km/h.

When it comes to recharging the battery, Mini says that it will take around two and a half hours to charge the battery to 80%. A fast-charging 50kW system, on the other hand, will recharge the battery to 80% in only 35 minutes.

With Mini Philippines gearing up for the Cooper SE's arrival, the newly-opened Mini flagship showroom in BGC will soon install electric charging stations to cater to electrified models.
