Aftermarket company offering crate engines of Toyota 22R, 5VZ-FE
US-based company brings back Toyota 22R, 5VZ-FE as crate engines

If you're restoring a classic Toyota and dealing with serious engine issues, these professionally built crate motors from LC Engineering could be the ideal solution. Regarded as the leader in developing and manufacturing aftermarket Toyota engine performance parts since 1985, the Arizona-based aftermarket company offers its 22R inline-4 and 5VZ-FE V6 crate engines.
Drawing on 40 years of experience developing aftermarket performance components for Toyota engines in the U.S., LC Engineering Performance crafts its newly built engines using state-of-the-art CNC machining, a Depac engine dyno, and extensive track testing. Their diverse engine product lineup ranges from bare engine blocks to fully custom-built pro series race engines.

22R
Part of Toyota’s legendary R-series family, the 22R is a 2.3-liter, inline-4 cylinder, SOHC engine that powered a wide range of Toyota cars and pickups over the years. This long block crate engine stays true to the original, featuring a cast iron block and cylinder head, and comes in multiple build stages to suit every need. From Stage 1 all the way to the high-performance stroker Stage 5, it can be modded with a twin side carb setup or fitted with a supercharger or turbo kit. Each engine undergoes dyno testing for camshaft break-in and shake-down, ensuring it’s fully prepped and ready to run. It’s also EFI-compatible for those running a fuel-injected, 22R-E setup, with no need for standalone engine management.

5VZ-FE
Coming from the Toyota line of VZ engines, these are found mainly in the first-generation Tacoma and in the third-generation 4Runner, with sizes ranging from the 2.0-liter, 1VZ all the way to the 3.5-liter, 5VZ-FE. This high-quality V6 engine is designed as a direct stock replacement with subtle yet effective performance enhancements. The Stage 1 5VZ-FE long block features include ported and polished cylinder heads with ARP head studs for added durability. The bottom end comes with a polished crankshaft mated to refurbished connecting rods and OE Hypereutectic pistons with stock compression ratios.

Quality build
Each new engine is assembled and tested by a single technician, from valve cover to engine oil pan, and comes complete. The only parts needed from the previous engine include the intake manifold, the exhaust manifold, the distributor, the alternator, the power steering pump, and the air conditioner compressor. LC Engineering offers a 1-year, unlimited mileage warranty on its new long block engines, such as its Street and Pro series.
