After GranTurismo, Maserati to launch all-new GranCabrio next year

Earlier this month, Maserati officially unveiled the all-new GranTurismo. Not only is it available with a twin-turbo V6 under the hood, but the grand tourer can also be had with a pure electric powertrain that doles out 761 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque. In fact, Maserati claims it can catapult itself from 0 – 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h.

While this is all well and good, Maserati enthusiasts are also wondering if there will be a convertible version of the next-generation GranTurismo. Fortunately, Maserati has just revealed the first images of the latest GranCabrio, albeit wearing a camouflaged livery.

Despite Maserati not yet being ready to fully show the all-new GranCabrio in all its glory, the camo'd prototype does come with the brand's latest design language. Just like the hardtop version revealed earlier this month, it gets the restyled grille, the updated LED headlights, and the wraparound LED taillights.

Since it's a cabriolet, this particular Maserati comes with a fabric roof that can be stowed or deployed on command. Maserati has yet to fully describe how fast it deploys or if it will be available in various colors. What we do know is that it will give drivers (and passengers) the fun experience to drive with the top down.

Powertrain details for the GranCabrio are not yet available. But since it's essentially the droptop version of GranTurismo, we can expect it to come with the 3.0-liter twin-turbo Nettuno V6 derived from the MC20 flagship supercar. Depending on the variant, the V6 will most likely be available in two states of tune; 496 PS with 600 Nm of torque in the Modena, and 557 PS with 650 Nm of torque in the more powerful Trofeo.

For those that prefer their GranCabrio to have zero emissions, the automaker will also likely offer the convertible with the Folgore powertrain. With that, the droptop could most likely be available with 761 PS and 1,350 Nm of torque.

Other details regarding the all-new Maserati GranCabrio are not yet available. However, the Modena-based automaker did mention that it's expected to be launched next year. But for now, the prototype models are undergoing intensive testing on the road, on the track, and in various road conditions.

Since it's slated to be revealed in 2023, perhaps the GranCabrio might arrive in the Philippines alongside the all-new GranTurismo. But before those two can arrive, the MC20 will have to get here first.
