After 15 years, Toyota to reveal third-generation Sequoia

There’s one full-size SUV that Toyota offers aside from the Land Cruiser, and it’s the Sequoia. Based on the full-size Tundra pick-up truck, the Sequoia is not offered locally and is mainly sold in North America. However, that hasn’t stopped gray market dealers from offering the Sequoia to interested customers. In fact, you might have already seen several examples going around the country.

However, it’s already due for a replacement as the second-generation model has been on sale since 2007. Throughout the years, it has only received several updates and facelifts. So when Toyota finally introduced the all-new Tundra last year, it meant it was only a matter of time before the all-new Sequoia was revealed as well.

True enough, Toyota has now released the first teaser image of the third-generation Sequoia. While it’s only a single photo, it’s clear that the new-generation SUV will look different from the outgoing model. Looking at the picture, the 2022 Sequoia will get a more stylish rear end, along with sharper character lines on the D-pillar, rear quarter panels, and rear doors.

While some might say it might look similar to the Land Cruiser 300, both SUVs look vastly different from one another. Perhaps the only feature both models share is the upward kink at the base of the rear windows.

Other details regarding its powertrain details are not yet available. However, we won’t be surprised if it will use the same powertrains as the all-new Tundra. For reference, the full-size pick-up is now available with a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6. The non-hybrid version makes 389 PS along with 649 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the hybrid variant makes more power at 437 PS plus 790 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a ten-speed automatic gearbox.

With the next-generation Sequoia set to be revealed soon, don’t be surprised to see private dealers bring some units to the Philippines in the near future. Heck, you might also see some gray market units of the Tundra should there be demand from customers.
