3.17-km Panguil Bay Bridge project 61% complete

Back in July of this year, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that progress on the 3.17-km two-lane Panguil Bay Bridge has exceeded the halfway mark. While the bridge itself has yet to be built, the agency has completed putting up all the 54 bored pile workings, as well as completing work on the installation of the pre-stressed concrete for pylons 1 and 2.

Fast forward five months later, and the DPWH has announced that work on the project is now at 61%. According to DPWH Senior Undersecretary Emil K. Sadain, construction on the said bridge project is being expedited in order to accelerate its completion at the soonest.

The construction blitz first began following the full completion of all the 54 bored piling works mentioned earlier. This allowed the DPWH to start building the 36 abutment and pier columns on both ends which will span from Tubod, Lanao Del Norte, and Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.

Construction of the Panguil Bay Bridge project is done around the clock by about 336 workers with the goal of having it finished by the end of 2023. Once work on the bridge is officially complete, the DPWH claims travel time between Lanao Del Norte and Misamis Occidental will be cut from 2 hours by land to just 7 minutes via the said bridge. In addition, the Panguil Bay Bridge will also become the longest sea-crossing bridge in Northern Mindanao.

With a deadline set for December 2023, the DPWH has its work cut out in finishing the 3.17-km bridge around Christmas time.
