2026 Suzuki Jimny gets subtle but important upgrades

It's been over six years since the all-new Suzuki Jimny made its Philippine debut. While we already have the Five-Door version available, some purists and 4x4 enthusiasts still prefer the standard Three-Door version for its capabilities when the going gets tough in uneven terrain. However, when it comes to equipment and features, the Five-Door trounces the Three-Door.

Luckily, Suzuki has updated the regular Three-Door variant to give it more standard features and amenities for the 2026 model year. While it still looks the same as before, Suzuki was busy installing more cabin amenities and intelligent driver aids for better peace of mind.

For starters, there's a new 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that delivers crisper graphics and fills up the center dashboard more nicely. However, this new touchscreen is only available on higher-grade models, as lower variants still get the smaller 7-inch screen.

Also new is a 4.2-inch multi-info display that replaces the previous LCD that sits between the speedometer and tachometer. While it may not look like much, the new multi-info display works with the new intelligent driver aids that are now available in the regular Jimny. Here, the display can show the driver how far the Jimny can follow the vehicle in front of them via the adaptive cruise control. In addition, it can also show how far the vehicle can automatically brake in the event of a possible frontal collision.

Speaking of collision safety, the 2026 Jimny now comes with the Dual Sensor Brake Support II. The system can warn the driver of a possible collision with sounds and indicators. Should the driver not be able to brake in time, the system can automatically apply the brakes to avoid or mitigate an impact. The system can detect pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles. In addition, it works in both head-on collision scenarios, as well as while making right or left turns.

Other intelligent driver aids available in the updated Jimny include lane departure prevention, automatic high beams, and traffic sign recognition.

Under the hood, the Jimny continues to be available with a 1.5L K15B four-cylinder engine that makes 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque. As before, buyers can choose from either a five-speed manual gearbox or a four-speed automatic transmission that sends power to Suzuki's AllGrip Pro 4WD system.

With the Jimny now available with more standard amenities and safety features, we're hoping Suzuki Philippines can make the new features standard in the Three-Door Jimny in the not-so-distant future. After all, more and more vehicles are starting to have intelligent driver aids as standard equipment.
