2025 XC90: Volvo keeps its flagship ICE SUV longer with new updates

Volvo has recently pushed back its goals of being a fully electric brand by 2030, and that means we’ll be seeing their biggest ICE SUV, the XC90, for a little while longer.

The manufacturer has updated the XC90 SUV for the 2025 model year, bringing a few key revisions both inside and outside. While the EX90 already exists, the second-generation XC90 is set to stick around in its decade-old platform.

On the outside, there’s a new grille that comes with reshaped headlights and new LED DRLs up front. Volvo has also made design changes to the front bumper with a wider opening for its lower air intake. The rest remains unchanged apart from a new light pattern on the XC90’s signature taillights.

Inside, Volvo has significantly updated the XC90’s screen; swapping out the old 9-inch unit for a bigger 11.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment that houses most of the SUV’s cabin functions such as the A/C, and even the drive mode for the plug-in hybrid version. It can also be specced with the optional Bowers & Wilkins audio system for a better sound experience.

Volvo was tight-lipped on the engine specifications for the XC90, but what we know right now is that the SUV can be bought with a choice of plug-in hybrid or two 48v mild hybrid engine options. For comfort, the XC90 has an available air suspension option to deliver that silky-smooth ride.

The manufacturer has already opened the order books for the 2025 XC90, with production and deliveries targeted to start by the end of this year.
