2025 Nissan Armada Pro-4X is the Y63 Patrol's adventurous twin

Believe it or not, the Nissan Patrol has a USDM twin in the form of the Armada. It first started life as the Pathfinder Armada and had a completely different look compared to the Patrol. It was only in its second generation did the Nissan Armada became a twin to the Patrol we get in the country.

With the seventh-generation Y63 Patrol already making its global debut in the Middle East, Nissan has also decided to hold the US debut of the all-new third-generation Armada. Based on initial impressions, the USDM luxury SUV looks no different from the Patrol aside from some subtle changes here and there.

However, the recently revealed Nissan Armada has something the Patrol can only wish to have; a Pro-4X variant. That's right, the all-new USDM SUV gets a healthy serving of off-road upgrades both inside and out.

Beginning with the exterior changes, the Armada gets an all-black grille with red accents. It also gets the C-shaped LED headlights & lighting signatures as the Patrol but comes with amber corner lights. Also present are the exposed front tow hooks finished in red along with skid plates that are integrated into the front & rear bumpers for extra chassis protection.

Providing extra grip over any terrain are the 275/60/R20 all-terrain tires shod in massive 20-inch alloy wheels painted gloss black. Other models, however, can come with smaller 18-inch alloys or bigger 22-inch wheels.

Complementing the off-road tires is an adaptive air suspension system that can increase the vehicle's ride height by up to 2.1 inches above the standard height. In this setting, it allows the Armada to have over 240mm of ground clearance, an approach angle of 33 degrees, a breakover angle of 25.5 degrees, and a departure angle of 24.5 degrees.

Under the hood, the Armada gets the same 3.5L twin-turbo V6 as the Patrol. It delivers 425 PS with 700 Nm of torque and is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox complete with 4WD. A total of 8 drive modes are available in the new Armada; Standard, Eco, Tow, Snow, Sand, Rock, Mud/Rut. For those that like to tow, the Armada has a towing capacity of 3,855 kg and benefits from an Integrated Trailer Brake Controller.

Hop aboard the Armada, and the familiar-looking cabin shared with the Patrol is present. It gets the same Monolith display, which consists of a pair of 14.3-inch displays showing the instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come as standard, along with high-quality leather seats featuring the Pro-4X logo embossed on the headrests.

Other key features available inside the 2025 Armada include the button-style gear selector, a rotary-style drive mode selector, a panoramic sunroof, a 12-speaker Klipsch sound system, satellite navigation, and a host of intelligent driver aids and features shared with the Nissan Patrol.

With the 2025 Nissan Armada now available in the US, we won't be surprised if some gray market importers in the country will soon have them available in the future. Should there be a long waiting list for the all-new Nissan Patrol once it arrives here, perhaps some buyers might prefer the Armada.
