2025 Mazda CX-70 is the CX-90 without a third-row
The Mazda CX-70 can carry more cargo than the three-row CX-90

Remember when Mazda teased about the CX-70? Based on our previous report, the upcoming crossover will supposedly be a two-row version of the CX-90 flagship. In addition, it will reportedly be available with a six-cylinder under the hood driving the rear wheels (or all wheels).
Fast forward to the end of January, and Mazda has officially revealed the first images of the 2025 CX-70. Underpinned by the same new Large Vehicle Platform as the CX-90, the CX-70 is essentially the former but ditches the third-row seats. The result is a sporty crossover that can haul more cargo and can also accommodate five people.

Starting with its design, the CX-70 looks no different from the CX-90. With its sporty proportions, stylish front fascia, and eye-catching rear end, the CX-70 is a stunner. It also comes with plenty of black accents throughout the exterior, highlighting the chiseled design of the new crossover. Last but not least, it's available with massive 21-inch machine-cut alloy wheels which further enhance the vehicle's stance.
The interior also looks similar to the CX-90 with its wide dashboard, freestanding touchscreen infotainment, digital instrument cluster, and use of a two-tone finish. With an emphasis on families (or individuals) with an active lifestyle, Mazda also put exclusive add-ons in the CX-70. These include remote-folding rear seats that allow for easier loading of equipment, a rear cargo area that has been optimized for storage with additional compartments, hooks to hang bags or small items, and a sub-trunk design that will allow users to stow smaller items away from prying eyes.

Under the hood, the CX-70 will be available with two powertrain options, a 3.3-liter SkyActiv-G turbo-gasoline inline-six and a 2.5-liter naturally-aspirated e-SkyActiv inline-four plug-in hybrid (PHEV). No exact specifications are listed as of this time, but we can expect the engines to have the same output as the ones found in the CX-90. That means the six-cylinder will likely crank out 345 PS with 500 Nm of torque while the electrified four-cylinder could come with 327 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Both engines may likely be paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Other details about the Mazda CX-70 have yet to be revealed. But given that the new crossover is listed as a 2025 model year, perhaps the automaker will release more details closer to launch which may happen in Q3 or Q4 of this year. The only question is, can we expect Mazda Philippines to bring the CX-70 here?
