2025 Infiniti QX80 is the next-gen Patrol in a rakish suit

After dropping some teasers a few weeks ago, it’s time for Nissan’s luxury arm to shed the camouflage and show the world the all-new 2025 Infiniti QX80 SUV.

Yes, the next-generation Nissan Patrol’s premium twin has been revealed, and there are a lot of interesting details that we could also expect once the all-new Patrol makes its debut later in the year.

As expected, the QX80’s design is the QX Monograph in production form. The slim LED DRLs, the huge front grille, and flush door handles have been carried over to the production version, while additional design details were added to the beltline and the rear of the three-row SUV.

Infiniti designers wanted to highlight the QX80’s upright stance, which we could also expect on the next-gen Patrol once it arrives. The brand calls it an “anti-wedge profile” brought about by its almost flat hood that leads to the broad shoulder lines. Size-wise, the all-new QX80 measures 5364mm long, 2116mm wide, up to 1979mm tall depending on the suspension and spec, while having a 3073mm wheelbase.

The deluxe cabin shows how Infiniti pulled out all the stops for its flagship SUV. The cockpit is leather-clad with some wood and aluminum accents, and the top-spec Autograph trim even gets quilted seats. Lighting can also help set the mood with 64-color personalized ambient lighting, with LED light strips found on the dashboard and doors.

As expected, there are two 14.3-inch display screens; one as an instrument cluster, and the other for infotainment. There’s also a 9-inch touchscreen below the infotainment screen for climate control.

Speaking of cabin cooling which Nissan is known for, the QX80 features climate control for all three rows, with heating, ventilating, and even a massage function for the first and second rows. The cabin can also be optioned with the "biometric" cooling function which automatically adjusts the A/C according to the passenger’s body temperature.

The standard audio system is a 600-watt, 14-speaker system; but there’s an option to choose a 24-speaker, 1200-watt audio system from Klipsch. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay come standard, while the SUV’s around-view monitors boast the latest in camera and image processing technology.

Under the hood, a 3.5-liter, twin-turbo V6 called the VR35DDTT producing 450 PS and 700 Nm of torque will be found instead of the "thirsty" 5.6-liter V8 power unit.  found on the Z62. The new boosting powertrain gives it a significant bump in both power and torque. The new V6 unit sends power to either the rear wheels or all four via a new 9-speed automatic transmission.

The 2025 Infiniti QX80 still features a body-on-frame construction. The brand claims that the Z63 has 57% more lateral stiffness than the Z62. Furthermore, Infiniti says the QX80’s cabin is up to 3 dB quieter on the highway, and up to 4 dB in city driving thanks to enhanced sound deadening.

The optional air suspension on the other hand can lower itself during ingress and when traveling at high speeds. It can also raise the SUV’s body for use in rugged terrain when switched to Off-Road mode.

The all-new QX80 comes standard with an extensive list of "intelligent" ADAS features such as Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Blind Spot Intervention and Lane Departure Prevention. The ProPilot Assist gives the SUV an Intelligent Cruise Control with Steering Assistance, as standard.

Infiniti will hold the public debut of the all-new QX80 at the 2024 New York International Auto Show next week and will commence North American sales this summer.
