2025 Ford Explorer refreshed, drops hybrid variant

It looks like there was a reason why Ford Philippines announced there is now ample stock of its popular midsize crossover SUV. The Blue Oval has just launched the 2025 Explorer facelift in the US, and it gets more than just a makeover inside and out.

For starters, the Hybrid version has been axed from the lineup, leaving only the Platinum, ST-Line, ST, and Active (new variant) models for the 2025 Explorer. As for its design, the 2025 facelift appears to have some resemblance to the China-spec Explorer that was revealed back in 2023. The LED headlights get a slight redesign while the grille itself is bigger and more prominent. And depending on the variant, each grille comes with its own design.

It also gets new alloy wheel designs across the range while the LED taillights now extend toward the middle of the tailgate. Other key exterior changes present on the 2025 Explorer are the redesigned bumper intakes, new Vapor Blue Metallic finish, a black roof option for the ST, and larger 21-inch alloy wheels.

Hop inside and the interior of the 2025 Explorer gets a heavily restyled dashboard that aims to provide more space for the driver and front passenger. There's a new 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment along with a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel. The former comes with the Ford Digital Experience system and supports wireless connectivity for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The touchscreen also supports mobile gaming while the instrument cluster can now display the map in real-time.

Elsewhere inside the cabin, the 2025 Explorer gets dual wireless charging pads on the center console, 8 USB-C charging ports, and three 12V power outlets. Leather upholstery comes as standard across the range although depending on the variant and customer preference, the seats (and interior trim) can come in different colors and contrast stitching.

While the exterior and interior received plenty of changes, all remain the same under the hood of the Explorer. That means the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder turbo and the more powerful 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 have been carried over. The former puts out 304 PS with 420 Nm of torque while the latter generates 406 PS with 563 Nm of torque. Both engines are then paired with an updated 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive comes as standard as 4WD is only available as an option.
