2024 Toyota C-HR gets new PHEV variant

Some may have jumped the gun by leaking its studio images, but now Toyota has officially launched the all-new C-HR.

Featuring a complete redesign both inside and out, the second-generation Toyota C-HR also comes with a new plug-in hybrid variant. Thanks to its geofencing function, the system automatically switches to EV mode in a low-emission zone.

As a dedicated hybrid model, Toyota has a fully electrified range of engines with the all-new C-HR. There's a 1.8-liter 140 PS hybrid that's shared with the Corolla, a 2.0-liter, 198 PS HEV that has an all-wheel-drive option, and a top-spec 2.0-liter plug-in hybrid that puts out a combined 223 PS. All engines are mated to Toyota's e-CVT transmission.

In terms of dimensions, the all-new C-HR measures 4360mm long, 1830mm wide, and 1564 mm tall. It still is underpinned by the TNGA-C platform that's being used by the Corolla, Corolla Cross, and the all-new Innova Zenix.

Toyota wanted a “super-coupe” profile for the all-new C-HR, and the impact of “a concept car on the road”. As a result, they carried over much of the design details C-HR Prologue and adopted the new face for Toyota SUVs first seen on the bZ4X EV and the new Prius.

The all-new C-HR will be sold with a variety of two-tone paint designs to contrast the black roof, rear bumper, and rear quarter section.

Inside, the crossover features a 12.3-inch digital information display which can be adjusted to prioritize different content depending on driver preference. Likewise, a 12.3-inch touchscreen also serves as the C-HR's infotainment display. It has voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay, and wireless Android Auto connectivity.

Owners can also control the C-HR through the MyToyota app, allowing things such as A/C cooling and heating, plus fully remote parking among its list of features.

As for its advanced safety and driver assistance tech, all variants of the C-HR come with the latest Toyota Safety Sense. Key developments include Acceleration Suppression which slows any sudden use of the throttle when the risk of a collision with a vehicle ahead is detected. Also new is the Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) for smooth deceleration when approaching a slower vehicle ahead, or entering a bend, plus Steering Assist.

While it won't be officially sold in the Philippines, the all-new C-HR comes in two special Premiere Edition models for its initial launch. Online reservations for other markets are now available.
