2024 Subaru WRX TR gets big brakes, better handling, and 6MT

A few days ago, leaked images of the Subaru WRX TR for the Australian market made their way to the web. While it may not be a full-blown STI model, the “Tuner Ready” WRX gets some tasteful upgrades like a huge STI-style rear wing, massive Brembo brakes, large 19-inch alloy wheels, and even Recaro seats.

Fast forward several days later, Subaru officially revealed the 2024 WRX TR, and we were surprised with what we saw. For starters, it doesn't have the massive wing at the back as that may only be available to other markets. However, it does get some neat mechanical upgrades over the regular WRX sedan.

For starters, the TR comes with the aforementioned high-performance Brembo brakes. It consists of red 6-piston front calipers red 2-piston rear calipers, larger pads and rotors, as well as a larger brake master cylinder. Subaru says that with these upgrades the WRX TR delivers better stopping power, improved brake pedal feel, and better fade resistance.

In front of the improved braking system are new 19-inch wheels finished in Satin Gray. They are then wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza S007 tires that measure 245/35/R19. Unlike the regular tires, Subaru says the new tires will have increased grip in both wet & dry conditions, as well as provide better braking performance.

Subaru was also busy tweaking the WRX TR's suspension. Stiffer springs, revised damping settings, and a recalibrated steering rack are all set to deliver better steering feedback and response. Despite the suspension changes, Subaru claims that ride quality remains the same.

Under the hood, the 2.4-liter turbocharged flat-four remains unmodified for the WRX TR and continues to make 275 PS with 350 Nm of torque. On the upside, the engine is bolted to a 6-speed manual transmission complete with EyeSight. That's right, just like the BRZ tS revealed earlier this year, the WRX TR gets the benefit of intelligent driver aids even with a manual gearbox.

With the 2024 WRX TR now available in the US, it might not be long before it arrives in other global markets. Hopefully, Motor Image Pilipinas will be able to bring the WRX TR complete with the STI-style rear wing.
