2024 Porsche Macan to have up to 603 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque

As early as 2021, Porsche has been busy testing the next-generation Macan. But unlike the current generation which continues to be powered by internal combustion, the all-new one will be an electric vehicle (EV).

That's right, the Porsche Macan will trade its turbocharged engines for electric motors. In fact, Porsche recently took it to the elements to see how just it will perform once it's officially launched. With Porsche targeting more than 80% of its new car deliveries to be fully-electric models by 2030, the automaker is wasting no time fine-tuning its new EV.

But what can we expect from the Macan EV? For starters, Porsche says the EV will be underpinned by the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) platform. Developed together by Porsche and Audi, it will serve as a dedicated platform for the brand's EVs and will offer practical packaging and spaciousness. The new architecture is also modular which means manufacturers can adjust a vehicle's wheelbase, track width, and ground clearance to suit a specific car or segment.

When it comes to its electric powertrain, Porsche said the Macan EV will feature an 800V architecture that will be paired with a state-of-the-art battery and charging system. Exact charging times and maximum ranges have yet to be revealed although the automaker did say the Macan EV is capable of covering plenty of kilometers. More importantly, the company said that the battery can be recharged to 80% in less than 25 minutes via a fast charger.

The driving force of the Macan EV will be the permanently excited synchronous electric motors (PSM). Unlike typical electric motors, the rotor of the PSM is fitted with permanent magnets that generate a permanent magnetic field in the motor. Porsche says PSMs offer higher power and torque densities than asynchronous motors. Official output figures are not yet available although Porsche did say the Macan EV is capable of producing up to 603 PS and 1,000 Nm of pull with a dual-motor setup.

With another year to go before the automaker fully unveils the Macan EV, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any new info about Porsche's upcoming electric crossover. The only question now is, will next-generation Macan go full EV or will there still be a gas-powered version?
