2024 Lexus LC 500 ditches touchpad for touchscreen

If there is one feature most Lexus owners are glad is going away, it's the touchpad for the infotainment system. While it was a novel feature when it was first revealed, it quickly developed a reputation for not being user-friendly. And with touchscreen systems being more ergonomic to use and more popular with buyers, it was no surprise that Lexus started to replace the touchpad with touchscreens.

But there was one vehicle that stuck with the infamous touchpad, the LC 500. Since it was launched in 2017 (as a 2018 model year), the two-door grand tourer soldiered on with minimal updates.

For its latest update, however, Lexus has revealed several key changes for its flagship GT. Say hello to the 2024 LC 500 and LC 500h. The vehicles still look relatively the same, but the automaker introduced some important updates.

For starters, the touchpad feature along with the previous 10.3-inch media display has been replaced with a newer 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It now comes with a dual Bluetooth connection and wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also benefits from over-the-air (OTA) updates and a Panoramic View Monitor that allows drivers to see an all-around view of the vehicle's surroundings.

Exterior-wise, both the LC 500 and LC 500h can now be equipped with a carbon fiber roof, massive 21-inch forged alloy wheels with an all-black finish, as well as new metallic accents for that extra eye candy. When it comes to exterior finishes, two new hues are now available; Ultrasonic Blue Mica 2.0 and Copper Crest.

As before, the LC 500 is powered by a 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that cranks out 471 PS with 540 Nm of torque and is connected to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the LC 500h comes with a 3.5-liter V6 that is assisted by an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack. Power is then sent to a four-speed automatic gearbox and a CVT that work in unison to deliver power to the pavement.

With the LC 500 (and 500h) receiving some much-needed upgrades, it might not be long before it becomes available to the Philippine market. Heck, we might not have to wait long for the updated Lexus LC 500 to make its official debut in the country. Expect it later this year or in early 2024.
