2024 Honda CR-V gets 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating

In less than a month, the 2024 Honda CR-V will launch in the Philippines. It will have three variants and the image prices start at PHP 2.150 million before topping out at PHP 2.6 million.

There were divided reactions at best, and rightfully so. The entry-level price has gone up by almost 22%, and the top-of-line hybrid variant is 13% pricier than its predecessor. Aside from the new amenities, creature comforts, and the hybrid powertrain (for the e:HEV variant), there is one aspect this model has been so good at through three generations – safety.

For the third straight model year, the CR-V has received the highest rating from the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) NCAP (New Car Assessment Program) – 5 stars.

The model tested was the third from the top (the first two models were hybrids), the EL-AWD, which in the Philippines could be the 1.5 VX Turbo CVT AWD. It has eight airbags, autonomous braking capability, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, lane keep assist, and driver attention monitor. Also standard are forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking for motorcycles. Blind spot detection was only available on the passenger side.

Adult Occupant Protection is where the 2024 CR-V picked up its highest mark, 31.45 points out of a possible 34. It picked up 45.81 points out of 51 in Child Occupant Protection, 19.50 out of 21 in Safety Assist, but only 9.05 out of 16 for Motorcycle Safety. All in all, it scored a total of 87.16, which is enough to get it a 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating.

Style, features, hybrid powertrain (a first for the CR-V in the Philippines), and the highest safety rating possible. That’s a good enough reason for a little price bump, don’t you think?
