2024 Honda Accord makes ASEAN debut in Thailand, will PH be next?

Last year, Honda Cars Philippines Inc (HCPI) quietly removed the Accord from the local lineup. According to an anonymous source, the discontinuation of the midsize sedan was part of the company's plan to simplify its offerings.

Then a few months after the 10^th generation Accord left the Philippine market, Honda held the global launch of the 11^th generation midsize sedan in the US. Not only does it feature a more mature-looking exterior and interior, but it also comes with a new 2.0-liter hybrid powertrain that replaces the 2.0-liter turbo from before.

Fast forward to October 2023, and the all-new 2024 Honda Accord has officially made its way to Southeast Asia. Making its regional debut in Thailand, the next-generation midsize sedan is only available as an electrified model – meaning it's no longer available with a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine under the hood.

Now called the Accord e:HEV, the all-new midsize sedan gets a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine that's assisted by a two-motor hybrid-electric system with a pair of electric motors. They are mounted side-by-side and provide a total system output of 207 PS along with 335 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to an E-CVT driving the front wheels.

The Thai-spec Accord also comes with plenty of in-car amenities like a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, USB-C ports for the front & rear, a 12-speaker Bose sound system, Honda Connect, a wireless charger, 8-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function (driver only), leather seats, LED automatic headlights, a 10.2-inch multi-info display, an 11.5-inch heads-up display, and LED ambient lighting.

For extra peace of mind, Honda Sensing comes as standard on all variants which include; collision mitigation braking, lane-keeping assist, road departure mitigation, auto high-beam, adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow, and lead car departure notification system.

With the 2024 Honda Accord now in Thailand, could this mean that the Philippine market will also get it? According to HCPI General Manager Atty. Louie Soriano, Honda has yet to decide on the Accord's future in the country. But since it's already in Thailand, perhaps HCPI is just waiting for the right time to reveal the new midsize sedan to the local market.
