2024 GWM Tank 700 PHEV unleashed with 850 Nm of torque
GWM Tank 700 is now available in China, will PH follow suit?

After holding a special preview of its newest electrified 4x4 last year, GWM has officially revealed the 2024 Tank 700 to the market. Now available in the PRC, the Tank 700 Hi4-T will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain that's complemented by a 4WD system to allow it to go anywhere.

From its namesake, the Tank 700 comes with the Hi4-T 4WD system which is short for Hybrid Intelligent 4x4. It works like a traditional 4WD system and comes with modes like 4L (4WD-Low), 4H (4WD-High), and 2H (2WD-High) and comes with locking differentials for both the front & rear when the terrain gets tough.

As mentioned before, the Tank 700 comes with a turbocharged plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain that consists of a 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 that cranks out 360 PS and 500 Nm of torque. Impressive, but thanks to an electric motor and a 37.1 kWh lithium ternary battery pack, the Tank 700 actually has a combined system output of 523 PS and a whopping 850 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to a 9-speed hybrid automatic transmission. Thanks to the battery pack, the Tank 700 also has an all-electric range of around 90 km.
Despite being an electrified vehicle, the Tank 700 can still wade through waters as deep as 900mm. And should it need to cross even deeper bodies of water, it comes with “Wading Mode” which gives the SUV to cross streams up to 970mm deep.

Style-wise, the Tank 700 Hi4-T looks like a beefed-up version of the Tank 400 with some styling elements inspired by the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. The front end features a distinct pair of LED headlights along with a massive grille and a ventilated hood. The body itself, on the other hand, looks muscular and comes with squared wheel arches, massive 22-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires, and a boxy rear end complete with a spare tire carrier.

Since it can go over any terrain, the Tank 700 also benefits from plenty of 4x4 technologies. These include an air suspension with adaptive dampers and stabilizer bars that can disconnect electronically for better suspension travel & wheel articulation while going off-road. It can also come with an air suspension which not only improves riding comfort but can even help the elderly climb aboard the Tank 700 with ease. The air suspension can also lower the vehicle by around 50mm to pass through areas with low clearance. And at high speeds, the air suspension will drop the vehicle's height by around 20mm to improve stability and aerodynamics.

Need to load stuff while going off the beaten path? Available as an option is an electric trailer hitch which can carry additional cargo. From towing trailers to boats as well as bike racks, the trailer hitch option allows users to carry extra gear with ease.
With the Tank 700 now available in the Chinese market, perhaps it might not be long before it makes its way to other countries, including the Philippines. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed that will happen eventually.
