2024 GMC Sierra is Silverado EV's classier, beefier twin
On a full charge, GMC says the Sierra EV can travel up to 643 km

Earlier this year, Chevrolet officially joined the electric pick-up truck wars with the 2024 Silverado EV. Aimed directly to compete against the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck, Chevy's newest electric pick-up truck doles out an impressive 673 PS with 1,063 Nm of torque and is rated to have a maximum towing capacity of 4,535 kg. And if that's not enough, Chevrolet says all variants can travel up to 643 km on a single charge.

Fast forward to October, and GMC has launched the Silverado EV's more upscale (and more powerful) twin. This is the 2024 GMC Sierra EV, and boy is it a looker. While the electric Silverado already looks good as it is, the Sierra EV takes it up a notch thanks to having its own exterior design.
Not only does it get an illuminated GMC badge upfront, but the electric pick-up also gets a distinct pair of inverted L-shaped daytime running lights (DRLs), as well as bumper-mounted LED headlights placed below the DRLs. Other exterior features available on the Sierra EV include massive 24-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights, side steps, and black wheel arches.

In true pick-up truck fashion, the Sierra EV comes with a huge bed at the back that comes with the brand's innovative Midgate feature. Like the Silverado EV, this allows drivers to drop the Midgate which will allow them to have a longer cargo floor. According to GMC, this gives the Sierra EV 9 feet of storage between the cab and the tailgate is open. For added convenience, the bed also comes with power points; two for 120V and a single 240V plug.

Hop inside and the Sierra EV invites occupants into a minimalist yet luxurious cabin. A huge 16.8-inch tablet-style touchscreen infotainment system dominates the center of the dashboard. Not only does it come with Google integration as standard, but it also gets split-screen capability, as well as satellite navigation. And for added convenience, it gets Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

Beneath the touchscreen itself is a dedicated climate control system, a rotary-style volume knob, as well as toggle switches for a more tactile feel. There's even a center console with a sliding door, a wireless smartphone charger, wooden dashboard trim, aluminum accents, and a full leather interior with contrast stitching.
Other interior amenities present inside the Sierra EV include an 11-inch digital instrument cluster, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a Bose sound system, a panoramic glass roof, and a leather padded dashboard for that extra luxurious look and feel.

The driving force of the GMC Sierra EV is a dual-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain that is powered by GM's Ultium Battery pack. GMC says the electric pick-up delivers 764 PS and 1,063 Nm of torque in Max Power mode. GMC claims this allows the Sierra EV to go from 0 – 97 km/h in less than 4.5 seconds, have a towing capacity of 4,309 kg, and a rated maximum payload of 590 kg. As for its range, GMC says the pick-up can travel 643 km on a single charge which is similar to the Silverado EV's rating.

Recharging the Sierra EV can be done in several ways. There's the onboard 19.2 kWh AC charging system and an 800V DC Public Fast Charging system capable of delivering 350 kW – enabling the pick-up truck to have 160 km of range in just 10 minutes.
With GMC and Chevrolet now having each their own electric pick-up truck, GM just put Ford and the other automakers on notice that have a zero-emissions pick-up. The only question now is, which of the two EVs will be more popular than the other, the Sierra EV or the Silverado EV?
