2024 BMW 530e PHEV has 299 PS, up to 100km EV range
BMW plugs the 5 Series into the electric age with 2024 530e PHEV

BMW has been on a roll lately as it continues to unveil all-new models and new variants of its existing vehicles. From the armored versions of the new 7 Series and X5 as well as giving us a glimpse of the next-generation 3 Series via the Neue Klasse concept, the Bavarian automaker has been busy.
But perhaps one of the most important vehicles the automaker has revealed as of late is the all-new 8th generation BMW 5 Series. For the first time in the executive sedan's history, it's now available as an all-electric vehicle in the form of the i5, which generates nearly 600 PS. But what if you prefer your new 5 Series as a plug-in hybrid (PHEV)?
Well, BMW has just revealed the first details of the PHEV version of the next-generation 5 Series. Unveiled with the Neue Klasse concept in Munich is the 2024 BMW 530e. Serving as the entry-level PHEV model of the executive sedan, the RWD-only 530e may look just like any ordinary 5 Series on the road.

However, those with keen eyes will immediately notice the charging port on the driver's side fender which gives away the sedan's electrified nature. The 530e also has a smaller set of alloy wheels compared to the rest of the 5 Series lineup while the exhaust pipes are tucked underneath the rear bumper which gives the sedan a more subtle appearance.
At the heart of the 530e's powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine assisted by a newly developed electric motor integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission. The battery is powered by a 19.4 kWh battery pack. The combined system output of the 530e is rated at 299 PS with 450 Nm of torque, which is more than enough to make it quick and efficient.
With the battery at full charge, BMW estimates that the 2024 530e can travel on pure electric power between 87 to 101 km. As far as charging time is concerned, it will take around 3 hours for the battery to be recharged via a 7.4 kW rapid charger. With a standard 240V socket, however, charging time will take a lot longer at around 10 hours.
While BMW Philippines has yet to offer plug-in hybrids, the 530e could serve a market that prefers the best of both worlds when it comes to ICE and electric propulsion. Do you think the BMW 530e would make sense in the Philippines? Chime in your comments below.
