2024 Acura Integra Type S debuts as CTR's dapper twin

For those who want the Civic Type R to look a little more prim and proper, well look no more because its Acura twin has arrived.

Say hello to the 2024 Acura Integra Type S, and it finally has the performance we've been expecting since the Integra sport compact nameplate was revived.

Much like the original Integra DC2 and the Civic EK9, the all-new Integra Type S shares a lot with the FL5 Civic Type R under its skin. But outside, the Integra Type S retained the classier look we've seen in the standard Integra.

What Acura did is fit the Type S with wider fenders and 19-inch wheels wrapped in 265 mm wide Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. It makes do without the aggressive rear wing of the Type R, but the Type S has borrowed the FL5's vented hood and triple exhaust design, which promises to sound even better with pops and bangs when switched to Sport+ drive mode.

Inside is where the Type S attempts to appeal to a different audience, particularly with the way the interior was designed. Gone are the red bucket seats and red contrast stitching of the Type R. What you get instead is a leather and suede upholstery combo that's available in either red, black, or white. New for the Type S is a heads-up display, heated seats, and a 16-speaker audio system from ELS.

As promised, the Integra Type S has slightly more power than the Civic Type R to compensate for the higher curb weight. The 2.0-liter, inline four-cylinder DOHC VTEC turbo engine produces 320 PS and 420 Nm of torque, sending power to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission with a limited-slip differential.

There are also three drive modes for the Integra Type S. But instead of R+ mode, the most aggressive drive mode is called Sport+. Along with Comfort and Sport driving modes, it alters the behavior of the Integra's throttle and steering response, as well as its adaptive dampers.

Acura says the 2024 Integra Type S will go on sale in the United States by June 2024, and pricing will be announced closer to its launch. Unlike the FL5, the Type S is likely to be available only in markets where Acura is present. Those include the US, Canada, Mexico, Panama, and Kuwait.
