2023 Toyota Wigo tops out at PHP 729,000

Just a day after Honda revealed the updated Brio hatchback, it's Toyota Motor Philippines' turn to showcase the smallest vehicle in its lineup: the Wigo.

The Wigo has been redesigned from the ground up after almost a decade. Size-wise, the all-new Wigo has grown compared to its predecessor. It now measures 3760mm long, 1665mm wide, and 1505mm tall, making it 100mm longer, 65mm wider, and sits 15mm lower. But the biggest difference is on the wheelbase. It has been stretched from 2450mm to 2525mm, which should translate to more room inside.

The increase in size is also attributed to the all-new Wigo's use of the DNGA-A platform that also underpins the Toyota Raize / Daihatsu Rocky. Hopefully, Daihatsu has worked out the issues with the platform especially since the first batches of the Raize were plagued with problems with the welding at the front suspension towers collapsing.

The updates are also visible with the all-new Wigo's looks. The narrow LED headlights are reminiscent of the Raize and the third-generation Vios with its trapezoidal-shaped grille. For the top-spec G model, the all-new Wigo also gets LED daytime running lamps.

On the side, the all-new Wigo gets visibly larger windows, while the rear end gets its own identity with its reshaped taillights. Finishing the look is a set of tiny 14-inch alloys.

Step inside and the all-new Wigo greets you with the economy-minded DNGA family interior. That means you can expect a lot of plastic inside, though Daihatsu/Toyota did try to give it the horizontal motif seen on the Raize and Avanza/Veloz to create the illusion of space.

The 8-inch TV box-style touchscreen is also present, but it does come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The driver will see analog dials on the gauge cluster with amber lighting while the A/C system has a digital display with manual climate control.

As expected, the all-new Wigo was launched packing the 1KR-VE engine under its hood. The 1.0-liter, 12-valve DOHC 3-cylinder unit so expect a bit of vibration coming through into the cabin, unlike a 4-cylinder. Power is rated at 67 PS whilst torque is at 89 Nm which is just a little bit more (+2 PS / +4 Nm) versus the predecessor thanks to Dual VVT-i.

Buyers have the option of choosing the all-new Wigo with a 5-speed manual for the base variant and the new D-CVT for the E and G variants that replaced the 4-speed auto. For safety, the all-new Wigo has dual SRS airbags in front, ABS with EBD, plus VSC and Hill Start Assist as standard, while exclusive to the top-of-the-line G CVT is a backup camera.
