2023 Toyota Vios: What changed with the all-new model?

We're only just a few weeks away before Toyota unveils its next-generation B-segment sedan. Despite being called the Yaris Ativ over in Thailand, it's essentially the Vios we're all familiar with in the Philippines.

With its launch slated for August 9, 2022, we're certainly excited about what the all-new Vios will look like in all its glory. Based on the teaser video they released yesterday, the next-gen model (reportedly codenamed D92A) will have a vastly different exterior and interior design. But what did Toyota exactly change for the all-new Vios?

Let's start with the most obvious first: the new face. Whereas the current-generation Vios comes with a sporty look, the all-new model will have a more stately and mature appearance. Borrowing some inspiration from the Corolla and Camry, the next-gen Vios will have a new pair of LED headlights, a blacked-out upper grille, as well as what appears to be a Lexus-inspired lower grille.

The front bumper, on the other hand, appears to have been restyled and looks cleaner than before. However, we're not yet entirely sure if Toyota will carry over the faux air vents and the round foglights for the next-generation sedan.

We were also able to get a glimpse of the Vios' new side profile. Despite only giving us a sneak peek, we immediately noticed the sedan's new fastback-like styling. Those with sharp eyes might have seen that there's an extra pair of rear quarter windows on the all-new sedan. Combined with the four-door's more sloped roofline and shorter rear end, we could be looking at a sexier-looking Vios once it's revealed next month.

We have yet to see its entire rear, but we did get to see a portion of its taillights. Based on the teaser, it looks like they will no longer be wraparound units that the current Vios have. Like the front fascia, the new taillights seem to have been inspired by the all-new Camry and Corolla Altis. In addition, high-end variants might come with a ducktail-type spoiler on the trunk lid.

Last but certainly not least is the more stylish cabin of the new Vios. The top-of-the-line variant that Toyota showed (presumably) will sport a red interior along with a new free-standing touchscreen media display; at least it appears to be free-standing similar to what Mazda has in their cars.

There will also be a new steering wheel, a new automatic climate control panel, what looks to be a digital instrument display, as well as a new gear selector on the center console.

Looking at the new interior, it seems the Vios will be sharing may elements of its cabin design with the Raize. This doesn't exactly come as a surprise since our insiders mentioned to us that the new Vios will be underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) which the Raize, Avanza, and the Veloz all currently use. And as we mentioned earlier, the new Vios will apparently be codenamed D92A which is a Daihatsu designation.

With only just a few weeks to go before August 9 arrives, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for any more info or possible leaks about the all-new Vios before its launch in Thailand. We're also hoping to see some prototypes being tested by Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) in the not-so-distant future.
