2023 Tokyo Motor Show now known as Japan Mobility Show

For the first time in 67 years, the Tokyo Motor Show did not take place back in 2021. Obviously, that was because of the pandemic. But now that restrictions have eased up, the biennial event we once knew is now being reborn as a collective gathering that highlights the future of mobility.

Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) announced the Tokyo Motor Show has been rebranded as the Japan Mobility Show and will be held from October 26 to November 5, 2023, at the Tokyo Big Sight exhibition center.

From its traditional car-centric theme, the new format is now an all-industry event that will showcase new passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, car bodies, parts, and machinery, plus mobility services from software experts and startups.

JAMA Chairman and Toyota President Akio Toyoda was even quoted as saying “We set a framework for mobility so other industries can join the event. I hope it will be a show that re-energizes Japan.”

A number of questions still remain. But with the 2023 Japan Mobility Show expanding beyond cars, that means there's more than just concept vehicles and interesting automotive ideas to look forward to in its much-awaited return. We just wish could hit that fast-forward button to October.
