2023 Shanghai: Honda previews next batch of e:N EV models
Honda displays e:NS2, e:NP2 prototypes plus e:N GT and e:N SUV Concept at Auto Shanghai 2023

While we're still waiting for Honda to launch its first e:HEV model in the country, the Japanese manufacturer's electrification efforts over in China is going in full swing. In fact, it's in a much more advanced phase, as Honda wants to roll out four EVs in the PRC by the end of 2024.

After launching its e:NS1 and e:NP1 crossovers last year, Honda has previewed the e:NS2 and e:NP2 prototypes, plus the e:N GT and e:N SUV Concept at Auto Shanghai 2023.

Let's begin with the e:NS2 and e:NP2 prototypes. Essentially, this is Honda's follow-up to the HR-V based e:NS1 and e:NP1 crossovers, which are exclusively sold in China through Dongfeng Honda and the GAC Honda joint ventures.

In terms of design, the e:NS2 and e:NP2 Prototypes have the body style of a crossover with a sloping roofline and a fastback-style rearend. The two upcoming models look to share the same platform like what Honda did to the e:NS1 and e:NP1. However, unlike the first batch, the e:NS2 and e:NP2 Prototypes have distinct front and rear fascias.

While no powertrain details or dimensions were announced yet, there's good reason to assume it will still be status quo for the e:NS2 and e:NP2 prototypes; the e:NS2 may be built from the Dongfeng Honda partnership, while the e:NP2 could be from the GAC Honda JV. Honda plans to put the production versions of the e:NS2 and e:NP2 on sale in China by early 2024.

On the other hand, the bigger e:N SUV Concept and e:N GT Concepts placed in the middle of the e:NS2 and e:NP2 will represent the third wave of EVs in Honda's e:N series family.
These prototypes and concepts are part of Honda's plans to grow the e:N series family to 10 vehicles by 2027 before becoming an all-electric brand in China by 2035.
