2023 Perodua Axia revealed as all-new Toyota Wigo's twin
Next-gen Perodua Axia gives us another look at the 2023 Toyota Wigo with a different badge

Closely following the global launch of the all-new Toyota Agya (AKA Wigo), its Malaysian twin has also been revealed to the world. Say hello to the 2023 Perodua Axia and it's packing plenty.

We've already seen the exterior of the Axia last week thanks to the teaser photos released by Perodua. But does it have the same exterior dimensions as the 2023 Wigo? Measuring in at 3760mm, 1665mm wide, and 1505mm tall, it shares the same measurements as the Wigo/Agya. It also comes with the same 2525mm wheelbase which translates to better cabin space, especially for those seated at the back.

As mentioned before, it's now underpinned by the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) which allowed Perodua to increase the hatchback's size and improve its interior dimensions. More importantly, the interior design is all-new and was inspired by the all-new Vios and Raize.
High-grade variants are equipped with a free-standing 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital air-conditioning system, a push-button start, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Other available cabin amenities present include contrast stitching on the leather-fabric seats, speed-sensitive door locks, and a 7-inch digital instrument cluster.

While the 2023 Wigo gets the new 1.2-liter three-cylinder WA-VE from the Raize, the Axia still comes with the 1.0-liter KR-VE inline-three carried over from the previous generation. The 4-speed automatic is no more as it has been replaced with a new D-CVT.
Despite being a budget hatchback, the 2023 Axia comes loaded with plenty of safety features. It's available with 6 airbags, anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, hill-start assist, and vehicle stability control. Other safety systems present include parking sensors and a reverse camera.

For extra peace of mind, higher-grade variants can come with the Perodua Smart Drive Assist which serves as the vehicle's suite of intelligent driver aids. These include pre-collision warning, pre-collision braking, front departure alert, pedal misoperation control, lane departure warning, lane departure prevention, auto high beam, rear-cross traffic alert, and blind-spot monitoring.
With Indonesia and Malaysia the first markets to get their hands on the 2023 Wigo/Agya and Axia, we won't be surprised if other markets in ASEAN will also get them later this year or the next. The only question now is, when will Toyota Motor Philippines actually bring the all-new Wigo here?
