2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe has X4, Macan in its sights

After launching the all-new GLC last year, Mercedes-Benz has now officially launched its sportier-looking version. Say hello to the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe, and boy is this vehicle a looker in every direction.

Set to take on the likes of the BMW X4, Porsche Macan, and the Audi A5 Sportback, the all-new GLC Coupe features a larger body, new and upgraded high-tech gizmos, and a generous list of electrified powertrains under the hood.

Just like its predecessor, the GLC Coupe features a sporty silhouette while still keeping the vehicle's traditional SUV proportions. Thanks to the slimmer LED headlights, the high-riding GLC Coupe looks sleeker and more dynamic than ever. There's also a ducktail spoiler at the back, distinct faux exhaust finishers, and heavy use of chrome accents that brighten up the exterior.

When fitted with the AMG Line appearance pack (as seen in the images), the 2023 GLC Coupe gets additional exterior eye candy that includes; a Panamericana grille, 19-inch alloy wheels, running boards, and sporty bumpers that highlight the vehicle's sportier looks. Last but not least, Mercedes-Benz claims the all-new coupe-styled crossover has an improved drag coefficient of 0.27 Cd, a big improvement over its predecessor which has 0.30 Cd.

In terms of size, Mercedes-Benz says the GLC Coupe now measures 4763mm which makes it 31mm longer than before. Width, on the other hand, remains the same at 1890mm. As for its height, Mercedes-Benz claims it's now 5mm taller than its predecessor.

Open the doors, and those that have already seen the dashboard of the 2023 GLC will find the GLC Coupe's design the same. These include the fully-digital 12.3-inch instrument cluster, color heads-up display, the 11.9-inch touchscreen MBUX infotainment system, and the unique-looking aircon vents.

A wide array of powertrains are available for the 2023 GLC Coupe. The range includes four mild hybrids (MHEV) and three plug-in hybrids (PHEV) options. It begins with the 2.0-liter turbo inline-four in the GLC 200 which makes 204 PS and 320 Nm. Next is the slightly more powerful GLC 300 which also makes use of a 2.0-liter four-cylinder but makes more power at 258 PS and 400 Nm of pull.

Those that prefer turbo-diesel power can also get the GLC 200d and GLC 300d. The former makes 197 PS with 440 Nm while the latter generates 269 PS and plenty more torque thanks to 550 Nm. The turbo-gas and turbo-diesel engines all come with a mild-hybrid system and are mated to a 9-speed automatic with 4Matic all-wheel drive.

Over to the PHEV powertrains, there are two turbo-gasoline variants and a single turbo-diesel model. The range begins with the GLC 300e which produces a total system output of 313 PS with 550 Nm of torque. Next is the GLC 400e which doles out 381 PS and 650 Nm of pull. Last but not least is the GLC 300de which cranks out 335 PS and 750 Nm of torque.

With the GLC Coupe now available in Europe, expect the rest of the world to get the GLC Coupe in the not-so-distant future. As to when the Philippines will get the all-new GLC and GLC Coupe, we could get both body styles later this year or perhaps in Q1 2024.
