2023 Ford Territory for Mexico is a rebadged Equator Sport

Remember when Ford Cambodia teased the all-new Territory earlier this year? While it may be called the Territory over there, it's actually a rebadged Ford Equator Sport that was first revealed for the Chinese market.

Essentially the smaller sibling of the Ford Equator, the all-new Territory/Equator Sport competes in the compact crossover market and gets an almost similar design as its bigger brother. It comes with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder that makes 172 PS with 260 Nm of torque and is coupled to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. Unlike the Yusheng-based Territory we currently have, the new Territory makes an additional 29 PS and an extra 35 Nm of pull.

Ford Philippines is still mum regarding the chances of the all-new Territory actually arriving in the Philippine market. However, we were surprised to learn that the next-generation crossover has made its way to Mexico. But unlike the Cambodian and Chinese versions which come with a 1.5-liter EcoBoost, the one over in Mexico actually gets a bigger engine under the hood.

It has a more powerful 1.8-liter EcoBoost inline-four that puts out 189 PS along with 320 Nm of torque. Power goes to a 7-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels. Aside from having a bigger motor, it gets a pair of massive displays inside the vehicle. In the top-of-the-line versions, both the digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system measure have 12-inch displays. There's also Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an 8-speaker sound system available on the Territory.

With the 2023 Ford Territory already making its way to the North American market via Mexico, it's looking more likely that the all-new Equator Sport will replace the Yusheng-based Territory in select markets. Does this mean the all-new Territory for the Philippines will also be based on the Equator Sport? We'll find out once Ford makes an official announcement regarding the matter.
