2023 Ford Ranger Platinum debuts with diesel V6, 20-inch alloys

When you see the word “Titanium” on a Ford vehicle, it means that SUV or crossover you're looking at is the top-of-the-line version that comes with all the bells and whistles. This can be mostly seen in the Territory and Everest models which come with the aforementioned Titanium (or Titanium+) nomenclature.

In the Ranger, the top-of-the-line version gets the Wildtrak name which means not only it gets a generous equipment list, but it's also the most capable model of the pick-up truck. However, there's a brand new variant that now is more focused on luxury rather than going off-road.

This is the 2023 Ford Ranger Platinum, and it's exactly what you'd expect. Instead of being engineered going off the beaten path, the Ranger Platinum serves as the luxury variant complete with premium appointments and features.

First and foremost, the Ranger Platinum comes with massive 20-inch alloy wheels derived from the Everest. It also gets a distinct “Platinum” hood badge at the front for everyone to see and is complemented by chrome accents throughout the body. Since this is the Platinum version, it also comes with matrix LED headlights for improved nighttime visibility.

For those that want to carry everything including the kitchen sink (figuratively speaking, of course), the Platinum comes with the Flexible Rack System which was revealed last week. Other exterior add-ons available in the Ranger Platinum include; a damped tailgate, a power roller shutter for the bed, and a black-painted roof. There's also a new color option in the form of Equinox Bronze which used to be only available for the Everest.

As mentioned earlier, it gets a more luxurious interior and additional amenities compared to the Wildtrak and lesser models. For starters, it gets the Everest's lower and upper glovebox which makes storing items that much easier. The front seats, on the other hand, are heated and benefit from 10-way power adjustment with memory function.

Like the Wildtrak, it gets a 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, the Platinum version has been equipped with a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, an auxiliary switch bank for additional driving lights, and “Platinum” branding on the floor mats, front seats, and dashboard.

Under the hood of the Ranger Platinum is not a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel four-cylinder engine. Instead, it comes with a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 that churns out 250 PS at 3250 rpm and 600 Nm of torque between 1750 to 2250 rpm. It is then paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission with a full-time 4WD system.

The 2023 Ford Ranger Platinum is now on sale in Australia, with customer deliveries set to commence in May 2023.
