2022 Toyota Veloz gets 5-star ASEAN NCAP safety rating

It's only been a week since the all-new Toyota Veloz was launched in the local market. Of course, there's a lot of interest in the newest subcompact SUV from Toyota. It has a fresh look, new features, and its top-spec variant now comes with the Toyota Safety Sense. For those wondering how safe the all-new Veloz is, you'll find the answers here.

Every new model that comes out worldwide is required to undertake the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP), and the tests depend on the market where it would be sold. For the all-new Veloz, there's a more stringent ASEAN NCAP protocol in place for 2021 to 2025. The subcompact SUV was the first Toyota model to be put to the test. And guess what, the all-new Veloz scored a perfect five stars across all four categories.

40% of the test is weighted on the all-new Veloz's Adult Occupant Protection (AOP). The criteria are composed of frontal impact, side impact, and head protection technology where the all-new Veloz got 34.88 out of 40.

For the Child Occupant Protection (COP) assessment, the Veloz got perfect scores in frontal and side-impact protection. Its standard ISOFIX child seat restraint system garnered 10.78 out of 12 possible points, bringing the overall child protection to an impressive 17.17 out of 20.

ASEAN NCAP also gave 16 out of 20 for its standard Safety Assist features, as the all-new Veloz is equipped with ABS, EBD, and seatbelt reminders for all passengers as standard. In addition, the subcompact SUV has optional features such as autonomous emergency braking and advanced safety assist systems like lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist.

The new ASEAN NCAP assessment protocol now includes the Motorcyclist Safety test, and it is where the all-new Veloz with Toyota Safety Sense truly shines. It performed well on the blind spot detection, auto high beam, and pedestrian protection tests, which was enough for the subcompact SUV to be given a 12 out of 20 score in the new Motorcyclist Safety assessment.

Overall, the all-new Veloz was given a total score of 79.99 out of 100. In the 2021-2025 ASEAN NCAP rating, it gets a maximum rating of five stars.
