2022 Suzuki Grand Vitara is coming, but will PH get it?

Just recently, Suzuki Philippines has stopped offering the Vitara B-segment crossover from their local lineup. But now, an upcoming C-segment crossover wearing a familiar Suzuki nameplate could very well serve as its bigger replacement.

Maruti Suzuki India is now gearing up for the revival of the Grand Vitara. That's right. The all-new Suzuki Grand Vitara is having its global debut on July 20, and all the signs point towards the new model being the Suzuki twin of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Toyota India recently launched the all-new Urban Cruiser Hyryder which was co-developed with Maruti Suzuki, and we were indeed surprised it was much bigger than the standard Urban Cruiser that was based on the Suzuki Brezza.

At 4365mm long, the Hyryder is 370mm longer than the all-new Brezza, which makes complete sense for Suzuki to use the “Grand” moniker for the new Grand Vitara.

Both crossovers use Suzuki's Global C-platforms. And for the Grand Vitara's case, it's likely to have a mild-hybrid 1.5-liter powertrain with an integrated starter generator like the Ertiga, the XL6, and the new Brezza. If it's anything like the Hyryder, the Grand Vitara could also have an all-wheel-drive system as an option.

Maruti Suzuki is expected to reveal more details of the all-new Grand Vitara in the days leading up to its July 20 global reveal.

Meanwhile, the Philippine market hasn't had a Grand Vitara since 2015, and Suzuki Philippines is still yet to announce a replacement for the Hungary-made Vitara. But since they're already sourcing models like the Celerio, S-Presso, Dzire, and Jimny from Maruti Suzuki, there's good reason to believe they could bring the Grand Vitara here to fill out their lineup.

In addition, the Grand Vitara does give a better name recall for Suzuki instead of the smaller Brezza. Or perhaps, maybe they could offer both? What do you think? Let us know in the comments.
