2022 Mazda CX-60 PHEV will have over 300 HP

Mazda has plans to expand its crossover line up even further over the coming years. Last year, the company confirmed that five new models will be arriving, starting with the CX-50, which was launched in November 2021, followed by the CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90. Next month, the automaker will reveal another – the CX-60.

The CX-60 will officially debut on March 8, 2022, and it is an important model for Mazda. The crossover will be the first model from the “Large Product Group” announced last year, and it will serve as the brand’s first plug-in hybrid model. It won’t be sold in North America, but Mazda says the CX-60 will be available in Europe, Japan, and other markets.

The automaker has yet to reveal the crossover in full. However, Mazda released a short teaser video to give us a better idea of what the CX-60 will look like. It’s hard to tell how big the crossover is from the video, but it does seem to be larger than the current CX-5.

Styling-wise, the CX-60 looks considerably different from Mazda’s current SUV offerings. The headlights look smaller and feature a unique LED lighting signature. One portion of the LED daytime running lights is in the headlight cluster, while the other extends to the center of the grille. Meanwhile, the bumper comes with larger corner air intakes, lending to a more aggressive design.

As mentioned earlier, the CX-60 will use a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine and an electric motor. Mazda says the crossover will deliver a total output of over 300 horsepower, making it one of the most powerful models in the brand’s lineup. This also means it's as powerful as the Toyota RAV4 Prime PHEV.

There’s no word yet whether Mazda Philippines plans to offer the CX-60 in the country. But a 300 HP crossover does sound exciting, right?
