2022 Honda ZR-V is the USDM HR-V in disguise

Remember when Honda revealed the first images of the USDM HR-V? Unlike the global version that we get, the North American version has its own look and is marginally bigger than the ones we currently have. Moreover, it's actually underpinned by the 11^th generation Civic's platform – thus making it a C-segment crossover SUV.

While we thought it was only meant for the US and North American markets, we were surprised to see it will also be available in other regions, particularly China. This comes after GAC Honda revealed the first images of the 2022 Honda ZR-V. That's right, the USDM HR-V will be called the ZR-V in the People's Republic.

Looking at the photos released by the automaker, the crossover will look similar to the one recently teased in the US. From the distinct LED headlights and taillights to the black body cladding, it's no different than what North America will receive. Even the shape and design of the grille are similar to the USDM version.

Perhaps the only difference the ZR-V has over the HR-V are the twin exhausts at the back, unique alloy wheels, and the lack of amber corner lights on the headlights (amber corner lights are a requirement in the US).

Also worth mentioning about the ZR-V is the '240 Turbo' badge on the tailgate. This likely means the crossover is powered by the Civic's 1.5-liter VTEC Turbo engine. Over in China, the powerplant supposedly makes 182 PS plus 240 Nm of torque. Power is then sent to the front wheels via an Earth Dreams CVT.

Since Honda has already released the teaser pictures of the ZR-V, perhaps it's only a matter of time before it's fully unveiled to the public. The only question now is, will the USDM HR-V debut first or will the China-spec ZR-V be revealed first?
