2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS makes global reveal in Goodwood
The most powerful street-legal Porsche 911 ever debuts at Goodwood

Porsche has just unveiled a monster of a 911 at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK in the new Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

The new 911 GT2 RS continues the line of ultra-powerful, lightweight, twin-turbo 911s that began with the 911 GT2 in 1993. 911 fans would note that the Turbo variant, previously the most coveted of the line, became four-wheel drive; the GT2 and the succeeding GT2 RS preserves the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive tradition.

The new GT2 RS is touted by Porsche as the fastest and most powerful 911 that you can drive legally on the street. Porsche gave the car an extremely aggressive set of aerodynamic enhancements and an expansive weight loss program through the use of carbon fiber on the fenders, vents and more. As a result, the 911 GT2 RS weighs 1470 kilograms; that total weight includes a full tank of gas too. An optional Weissach package reduces weight even further by 18 kilograms.

Power is increased to a whopping 700 horsepower from the twin-turbo flat six motor at the back. This was achieved by the use of larger turbochargers as well a system that sprays the intercoolers with water to further cool the charged, pressurized air (read: boost).
The 911 GT2 RS gets a special version of Porsche's seven speed dual clutch system, enabling the rear-wheel drive super sports car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 2.7 seconds.
The new 911 GT2 RS features even more advanced driving technologies and aids to achieve higher levels of performance than before. Porsche Stability Management, Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes, and even a rear-axle steering system are standard. Together with the UHP (ultra high performance) tires on the 20-inch wheels in front and 21-inch wheels in the back, the 911 GT2 RS can achieve a top speed of 338 kilometers per hour.

Porsche indicated a U.S. price of USD 293,000 for the 911 GT2 RS. Together with that sticker price, customers will get a special Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph, and it's COSC certified.

There will also be a Weissach Performance Pack available for the new 911 GT2 RS; this comes with additional chassis tuning and special Weissach logos in the seats and other carbon fiber parts.
