Every year, the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) showcases the latest vehicles and automotive innovations, drawing car enthusiasts and prospective buyers alike.

While new models take center stage, the show is equally known for its impressive lineup of restored and modified vehicles that captivate attention and often steal the spotlight.

Beyond the high-caliber cars featured in corporate display booths, another highlight is the MIAS-Petron Custom and Classic Car Competition. Showcasing outstanding examples of design, performance, and restoration.

"They don’t make cars like these anymore" is a fitting way to describe these classic vehicles. Here’s a sampling of some of the impressive entries that took part in the competition.

1981 Chevrolet Corvette

This entry from 1826 Motoring features a full frame-off restoration, incorporating numerous new, NOS-sourced parts and aftermarket engine components to ensure reliable drivability. Given its all-fiberglass body, the restoration involved extensive and meticulous work.

1988 Mitsubishi Pajero

A rare sight on our shores, this three-door, short-wheelbase model features a metal roof and an automatic transmission. Achieving this level of restoration required a frame-off rebuild, with new-old stock (NOS) bolts and parts. Employing careful attention to preserving an authentic, rather than over-restored, finish.

Factory Five Mk4 Roadster

This Factory Five Mk4 Roadster draws inspiration from Carroll Shelby’s legendary 427 Cobra, faithfully capturing its iconic styling while preserving its original essence. Under the hood is a rebuilt 289 V8 fitted with reproduction Shelby components, riding on updated 17-inch Halibrand-style wheels.

1980 Mitsubishi Galant Lambda Coupe

Sold together with its 4-door sibling, which is the Sigma, save for the custom tubular header, this is a restored example of the second-generation Galant with a pillarless hardtop coupe featuring aluminum C-pillar inserts and the unmistakable pillar lights, which were one of its unique features.

Land Cruiser 76

This 70-series Land Cruiser is a five-door wagon that exemplifies what a well-executed off-road build should be. A modest lift kit paired with the highly coveted Bradley V wheels and proper tire combination delivers a functional setup that remains capable when the pavement ends, while still maintaining a clean, purposeful look.

1980 Toyota Starlet

Old doesn’t mean slow. Even in its current form, this race car proves it can still be made fast, with a modified 16-valve 4AGE engine, individual throttle bodies, and a TOSCO-style stepped header paired with race-spec components.

1976 Toyota Corolla

This four-door sedan from Toyota’s most popular nameplate showcases a well-executed restoration with careful attention to proper components and trim. Aside from the custom green paint, the only non-stock additions are a rare set of TOSCO TRD wheels.

These and more classic and custom cars are just a glimpse of what awaits at the 21st Manila International Auto Show, running until this Sunday, April 12, 2026 at the World Trade Center in Pasay.
