Observe your PMS schedules

Keep in mind that car manufacturers have optimally determined these preventive maintenance periods. Its main role is to prevent unnecessary engine breakdowns or component failure even before it happens. Regularly following the PMS schedules allows the car manufacturer to check the diesel engine’s overall condition and replace defective parts as needed. Inspect your consumables

Apart from the diesel engine’s internal components, it also includes external parts that allow the engine to operate efficiently. Most of these are highly wearable parts, meaning they will break down over time and require replacement. Normally, these items are checked/replaced every PMS schedule and partially specified in the owner’s manual and include oil filter, drive belts, air filter, fuel filter, and so on. Ensure your engine cooling system is in tip-top condition

To prevent this from happening, this means regularly checking the overall condition of the cooling system. Start with the cooling fans and observe that they are properly working. Electric-powered fans should turn on/off automatically, while a worn-out clutch fan will spin easily. Check the radiator cap, hoses, and the radiator itself for any signs of leaks. Following the car manufacturer's recommended service schedule and coolant type, change the radiator coolant. Lastly, observe the temperature gauge and check if the needle stays in the normal operating range. 

Listen for strange noises, note any unusual vibrations

A normal operating vehicle shouldn’t be emitting unusual noises or vibrations as these are all signs that there’s something wrong.
